Charlotte Mikkelborg – The Journey

360 documentary experience ‘The Journey’ – traces the journey through childhood in 3 of the toughest environments on Earth.  The film was commissioned by UNICEF with the goal of highlighting the main challenges facing children in these areas – for under 5s the biggest challenge is access to nutrition, for 5-12 year olds it’s education and for teenagers it’s access to the internet and vital employment skills.  They wanted to raise awareness by finding children whose stories represented these realities.

With the help of UNICEF’s country offices, we found the stories we wanted to tell and then wove them together into a cohesive narrative that could be experienced both in a VR headset but also, free from wearable technology, in a projection dome setting for domes in New York and Germany.  The film went on to raise awareness and funds for UNICEF’s vital work and also went on to premier as a multisensory installation at SXSW 2018 and to win the Cine Golden Eagle Award for Best VR Short 2018.
